A free watercolor class open to anyone 11 and older takes place at Gorton Center on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The session, called "Watercolor Blooms," is led by Art Impact Project, a Lake County nonprofit celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026. Participants will add liquid to wet washes of color to create what the organization describes as unpredictable textures that promote relaxation.

All supplies are provided.

Spaces are limited. Participants must pre-register through Gorton Center's website. Gorton Center, at 400 E. Illinois Road in Lake Forest, can be reached at (847) 234-6060.

Art Impact Project, a 501(c)(3) based in Lake County, partners with schools, treatment facilities, libraries and community centers to offer art programming focused on mental health, according to its event listing on Patch. The organization works with groups ranging from students to senior citizens and guides participants step-by-step through each project in small-group settings.

Leslie Lord, who posted the event on the Patch Lake Forest calendar on June 29, listed the class as part of a recurring series at Gorton Center. Gorton Center's Facebook page confirmed a previous Art Impact Project session went well and promoted the Aug. 11 date as the next free program.

Two more Art Impact Project sessions at Gorton Center follow: a "Fantasy Collage" class on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and a "Prompted Painting" session on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
