Licensed therapist Jill Woolworth will lead two free sessions at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Lake Forest on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 23, covering grief and the challenges of parenting grown children.
The first session, "Grief and Loss," runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 22. The second, "Parenting Adult Children," follows from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 23. Both take place at the church, 400 E. Westminster, and are open to the public at no cost, according to a Patch community calendar listing. Attendees can also join virtually through the church's YouTube channel.
The sessions are part of Faith@Work, a speaker series at the Church of the Holy Spirit, the Episcopal church in Lake Forest. The church's website describes the series as a roughly monthly gathering where guest speakers share stories about the leadership and courage that come from faith in their daily lives.
Woolworth is a licensed marriage and family therapist based in Greenwich, Connecticut, with more than two decades of counseling experience, according to a Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute profile. She holds a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Fairfield University and undergraduate degrees from Stanford and Dartmouth in French literature. She also co-founded Women of Vision Fairfield County.
Before becoming a therapist, Woolworth worked at Citibank in New York City and raised three daughters. She published a book called "The Waterwheel: Practical Wisdom for 64 Common Concerns," which the Patch listing describes as "simple advice and playful illustrations" that readers can take a page at a time.
A 2019 Greenwich Sentinel profile noted that Woolworth often works alongside her golden retriever therapy dog, Hank. She described her counseling approach through what she calls "word pictures."
"Playfulness pushes out a lot of toxicity or the potential for us to get dragged down by it," Woolworth said in that 2019 profile.
Registration is available through a form linked on the Patch listing.
