Lake Forest police charged a 23-year-old Danville man with drunk driving after he crashed his Harley-Davidson on Route 41 and was ejected from the motorcycle.

Brayden G. Osborne faces three charges: driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and no insurance, Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk told Lake & McHenry County Scanner, which first reported the story.

Lake Forest police and fire crews responded around 12:02 a.m. Sept. 13 to the intersection of Route 41 and Route 60. Officers found a single-vehicle motorcycle crash, Zelk said.

An initial investigation showed Osborne's southbound Harley-Davidson struck the western curb near the Route 60 right-turn lane median, according to police. He was ejected from the motorcycle. Fire crews found him on the ground.

Lake Forest Fire Department paramedics treated Osborne at the scene and transported him to Northwestern Medicine Catherine Gratz Griffin Lake Forest Hospital with serious injuries. He was later transferred to another hospital because of the severity of his injuries, Zelk said.

No other vehicles or passengers were involved. Witnesses helped officers piece together the sequence of events.

Southbound Route 41 was shut down for about an hour while police processed the scene and a tow truck removed the damaged motorcycle.

Osborne is scheduled to appear in court in Waukegan for an initial hearing on Oct. 2.

The Sept. 13 crash is the second serious motorcycle wreck at the same intersection within about three weeks. Around 12:45 a.m. Aug. 23, a man in his 40s lost control of his motorcycle heading southbound on Route 41 just south of Route 60, according to Zelk. That rider hit the center median barrier, was ejected and was taken to Lake Forest Hospital with possible serious injuries.

Zelk said "alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in both collisions."

The identity of the Aug. 23 rider has not been publicly released, and no charges in that crash have been reported.

All details in both incidents come from Zelk's statements to Lake & McHenry County Scanner. No press release or public statement from the Lake Forest Police Department's own channels has been located for either crash.

The department urged motorists to drive sober or arrange a safe ride home when consuming alcohol or drugs.
