Lake Forest High School's girls tennis team won the Class 1A Antioch Sectional championship Saturday, Oct. 17, piling up 31 points.

Woodlands Academy's Courtney Croll took the singles title, while Lake Forest's Nina Singh and Lainey Laughton won the doubles championship. Both results send local players to the IHSA state finals, which run Thursday, Oct. 22, through Saturday, Oct. 24, in Buffalo Grove, according to the Peoria Journal Star. The top four finishers in singles and doubles at each sectional earn a state bid.

Singh and Laughton were dominant on their path to the doubles crown. The pair beat Johnsburg's Abby Lane and Brooke Butler 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinal round, according to the Northwest Herald. Lane and Butler, an unseeded team that had upset Wauconda's No. 2-seeded Kaitlyn Tracey and Sam Watton in the quarterfinals 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, could not win a game against the Lake Forest duo.

Lane and Butler went on to lose the third-place match to Grayslake Central's top-seeded Peyton Hoffman and Gigi Fedor 6-0, 6-1. That bracket context underscores how thoroughly Singh and Laughton controlled their side of the draw.
