Nearly 1,900 Lake Bluff households remained without electricity as of noon Tuesday, July 28, a day after severe storms on Monday, July 27, knocked out power to roughly 4,500 customers across the village.

Nine ComEd crews were addressing 44 active outages as of the Village of Lake Bluff's midday update. The three largest outages were still affecting about 409, 273, and 186 customers respectively.

As we reported earlier Tuesday, Monday's storms hit Lake County hard, cutting power to tens of thousands and forcing the Lake Bluff Public Library to close for the day.

Public Safety Building open for medical equipment

Residents who depend on medical equipment can access power at the Village's Public Safety Building, 45 E. Center Ave. The Village did not specify hours or an end date for the resource.

Restoration progress

Progress was steady. By noon Tuesday, ComEd had restored service to 2,353 Lake Bluff customers, about 55% of those affected. That was up from a 46% restoration rate at 7:35 a.m., when 2,431 customers were still dark and only six crews were working.

ComEd said it expects 80% of outages across its service area to be restored by noon Wednesday, July 29, with the vast majority back online by 10 p.m. Friday, July 31, according to Patch.

Broader picture

The outages stretched well beyond Lake Bluff. About 30,000 Lake County customers were still without power Tuesday afternoon, according to a Lake County representative quoted by the Chicago Tribune. In neighboring Lake Forest, 3,698 customers were affected. ComEd said more than 530,000 customers across its service area lost power in Monday's storms.

ComEd said its service area has experienced "a level of severe weather unlike what we've seen in recent years," adding that it has already weathered more storms in 2026 than in all of 2025.

Library program rescheduled

The Lake Bluff Public Library's Tea Dueling program, originally scheduled for July, has been rescheduled to Thursday, August 27, at 6 p.m. due to the storm closure.
