Milwaukee author Kristine Hansen will discuss and sign copies of her new book, Frank Lloyd Wright's Illinois, at Lake Forest Book Store on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The 208-page guide profiles 41 Wright-designed sites across the state, including one with a direct Lake Forest connection: the Charles F. Glore Jr. House at 170 N. Mayflower Road. Built in 1954 for investment banker Charles Glore, the Usonian-style home is Wright's only commission in Lake Forest, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy. It sits on two acres in east Lake Forest, one block from Lake Michigan.

The book lists for $24.95.

Published in July by Globe Pequot and distributed by Simon & Schuster, the guide covers Wright structures built between 1889 and 1959, all within four hours of Chicago. Other North Shore sites featured include the Ward Willits House and Mary M.W. Adams House in Highland Park, the Sherman Booth House in Glencoe, the Lewis E. Burleigh House in Wilmette and the Kathryn and Lloyd Lewis House in Libertyville.

Hansen, who grew up in Northern Illinois, told the Wednesday Journal in July that she focused on the tension between honoring a historical home and adapting it to modern life. "A common thread among these sites is that a Wright home is like a living person. It has a heartbeat," she said.

The book follows Hansen's 2023 title, Frank Lloyd Wright's Wisconsin. Each chapter blends architectural history with stories of the families who commissioned the buildings and practical visitor information. A timeline of Wright's Illinois career and a glossary of architectural terms round out the guide.

Eric Rogers of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy described the book as going beyond photos and factoids to relate the joys and challenges of preserving Wright's design legacy in the state that holds more of his significant buildings than any other, according to the book's publisher page.

A start time for the Sept. 30 signing has not been announced. Hansen also appears at Bookends & Beginnings in Evanston on Thursday, Sept. 24.
