A Bears jersey sent from Halas Hall in Lake Forest is now in the hands of Pope Leo XIV.

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams gifted the pontiff a personalized, autographed No. 18 jersey over the Fourth of July weekend, delivered Saturday, July 4, by U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See Brian Burch. Williams shared a photo of Pope Leo holding the jersey on his Instagram story with the caption "shoutout DAAAA POPEEEE."

The gift came through Williams' Caleb Cares Foundation. Williams inscribed the jersey with "To: Pope Leo," the hashtags #DaPope, #DaBears, and #Heisman22, and the Latin phrase "AMDG," which stands for "Ad majorem Dei gloriam" ("For the greater glory of God"), according to the New York Post.

The white jersey with orange numbers isn't the Bears' standard road uniform. Multiple NFL outlets speculated it could be an early look at Chicago's Nike "Rivalries" alternate, which NFC North teams are scheduled to debut during the 2026 season. The Bears are set to wear the Rivalries jersey on Christmas Day against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field, airing on Netflix at 1 p.m. ET.

Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, is a Chicago native and the first American-born pope in Catholic Church history. His Chicago sports fandom runs deep. He sat in Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2 for Game 1 of the 2005 World Series, according to USA Today. This is the second Bears jersey Pope Leo has received. Vice President JD Vance presented him with a custom one days after his election during the 2025 papal conclave.

When asked about the Bears' plan to build a new stadium in Hammond, Indiana, Leo said, "That's out of my pay (scale)."

Williams was at Halas Hall in Lake Forest as recently as June 9 for mandatory minicamp. Bears fans hoping for another glimpse of the Rivalries uniform will get their chance on Christmas Day, when Chicago hosts Green Bay at Soldier Field.
