Lake Forest's Jacob Minin claimed the men's Olympic Distance title at the 18th annual Boston Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 23, finishing in 1:46:33, according to Patch.
Minin, a USAT Elite license holder, topped the field at DCR Carson Beach in South Boston in a race that drew thousands of athletes from Greater Boston and around the world. The Olympic Distance course covered a 1.5-kilometer swim in Dorchester Bay, a 35-kilometer bike ride on closed roads including DCR William Day Boulevard and a 10-kilometer run through Moakley Park.
He was dominant.
Taylor Larson of Plainville, Massachusetts, won the women's Olympic Distance title in 2:09:08.
Minin earned his elite license in 2023 after a fifth-place finish at the Human Powered Health National Triathlon Development Race at the Jenny Lee Tri Cup. He has trained with Cloud10 Multisport, coached by Chris Palmquist, according to the team's Instagram posts.
"One of the things that makes the Boston Triathlon special is that there are so many different ways for people to be part of it," race director Michael O'Neil said in a post-race statement. "We have experienced athletes racing for the podium, first time triathletes challenging themselves, relay teams sharing the experience with friends …"
The event, produced by ethos, a mass participation event organization, also featured Sprint Distance races. Michael Dizon-Bumann of Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands, won the men's Sprint title in 57:19, and Andrea Cox of Boxford, Massachusetts, was the top woman in 1:09:37.
The race weekend included a 12th annual Kids Day on Saturday, Aug. 22, featuring Splash & Dash races and a Kids Fun Run. The Olympic and Sprint Race Awards Ceremony took place at noon Sunday at the race venue.
Among the weekend's other highlights: Haverhill residents Yonatan Quezada and his 20-year-old son Schoan completed the Sprint Triathlon as a push-assist duo in 2:11:20, the first push-assist entry at the Boston Triathlon since 2019.
