Lake Forest's 1-0 lead vanished in a hurry Wednesday, Oct. 28, as Glenbrook South rattled off three unanswered goals in the second period to beat the Scouts 3-2 in Glenview.

The loss drops Lake Forest to 5-7 (5-5-1-1) in Scholastic Hockey League play, according to the SHL's game recap.

Ed Vedra gave the Scouts an early jolt, scoring upper corner about three minutes into the game. James Altounian picked up the assist. Lake Forest carried that 1-0 edge through the first period.

Then the second period unraveled.

Lucas Fagin tied it at 13:52 of the second with a shot from the right point, assisted by Owen Kosmeder, that banked off the left goalpost and in. Jack Locallo scored his first goal of the season with 2:34 left in the period off a backhanded pass from Teddy Mikroulis. Freshman Luciano Martini added the game-winner at 1:18 of the second, deflecting a Luke Fagin shot.

"The goals we gave up, those were mistakes – and they capitalized on those mistakes. Those three big mistakes cost us," Lake Forest head coach Steve Sarauer said.

Sarauer said the team moved the puck well and played better in the defensive zone. He called it a great game with good goaltending on both sides.

Scouts goalie Logan Marsch drew praise from both benches. Sarauer said his netminder played well again. GBS freshman Martini called Marsch one of the best goalies in the state, saying he is especially strong on straight-on shots.

Sarauer singled out defenseman Wyatt Nelson as the Scouts' standout. "Wyatt had a great game on defense. I think our D core played better today than they have," Sarauer said.

Glenbrook South improved to 5-1 in SHL play with its third straight one-goal victory. GBS head coach Jim Philbin said his team had an extremely slow start but found its game late in the second period.
